LANDSCAPES:  HILLS and MOUNTAINS

Our Earths beginning some 4 billion years ago was a dramatic and tempestuous one. There were Earthquakes, Planetary collisions, Asteroids bombardments colliding into the Earths surface. It was hell on Earth, and this was a common occurrence in the Earth’s early formation. Besides all this banging and clashing of celestial bodies, there were volcanic eruptions spewing hot molten lavas and various noxious deadly gases into the atmosphere. It was a barren and desolate place, unable to support or sustain any form of life. This dramatic and often times violent motion in the Earths birth had created many hills, valley, and mountains. The Earth cooled down after billions years of volatile activity, giving rise to the land with many peaks and valleys. This was the foundation to hold the waters and ultimately all inhabitants.

In every civilization or culture throughout the history of humankind, there is talk of the Origins of man, and the creator who created man. It believed that God created man in his/her own image from clay that was from the earth. Therefore, God created man from the Earth and the Earth is the Garden of Eden. This belief is widely accepted in Hebrew and in the Christian Religion.

My perception of the Earth is that it is feminine. She is the Mother, she nurtures, and support life of every classification. Vertebrate animal, non-vertebrate, plant, and animals all thrives bountifully upon her domain. She gives us an unspoken language of beauty, as she shares her love and her beauty to please our senses. In almost every landscape, hills, or mountains, you will see the female form. I am a believer of the Feminine Devine, the fertility goddess, the nature goddess, the sea goddess, and every goddess that can be associated with the Earth. I see her beauty even in the most desolate places on earth. Her power, and majesty unchanged by the affects by any obvious surface flaws.

I remember the fires that were here in California in 2003. I was going through the charred remains of the Mountains. The first adventure out into the mountains after the Southern California wild fire that was started by man who was very careless. At first glance, the landscape was a complete devastation. I was Shocked and horrified to see the large scale destruction , and I became so irate about the origins and the displacement of the wildlife and human lives that fires had affected .In the middle of my conversation with myself, I heard a quite voice said , “yes, but just look beyond your anger”. “Take a good look, breathe, and feel the force that lays beneath the ruins…..you will feel… Life “

I closed my eyes and say beyond the blackened landscape, I breathed, and saw the beauty Of each charcoal stick. It was beautiful. I quietly said Thank you mother earth for sharing your wisdom with me in this moment. I do not think that I will ever look at nature in the way that most others do. I have the gift of observation, and perception, combined with my feelings, I can capture one aspect of this and allow others to feel something out of the ordinary, and make it extraordinary. . For me, the creation of the landscape is very tangible and extremely sexual or seductive in nature. If you look very closely on any landscape that I create, you will observe the female form looking back at you.

It may not be obvious to you at first glance; it is subliminally waiting to be discovered to by the viewer at the right time. This is my perception the Earth, and this is our Eden.
