Artists in the 1990's:
George Alphonso Walker Attains the Perfect Balance

George Alphonso Walker attains the perfect balance between aesthetic and spiritual beauty. His visions originate from dreams where there is neither judgment nor limitation - only pure, unadulterated expression. His light-filled subjects - figures, landscape and floral - reveal the power of universal harmony, channeled from the very source of all creativity and artistic production. Walker's involvement in the creative process has been one of continuous evolution.

He attended New York's Fashion Institute of Technology, and in addition to creating fine art, he has enjoyed a successful career in the fashion industry in New York, Chicago, San Diego, and Europe. "Working in the fashion world, I have learned to appreciate aesthetic beauty," Walker explained. "Living in the real world, I have learned to appreciate the spiritual beauty. One of my challenges has been to bring these dichotomies together as a harmonious blend on canvas." Walker is adding another dimension to his spiritual growth; he is currently studying to become a metaphysical minister.

The universal consciousness which permeates all of Walker's paintings is eloquently depicted in "Diva,” a statuesque manifestation of timeless, classic beauty. Its idealized, angular features adorned by a massive crown of long, undulating curls could have been chiseled from the same stone used by Greek and Roman sculptors. At the same time, this prima Donna, dramatically bathed in passionate colors and theatrical lighting, infers something about contemporary culture. Whether this creature is an ancient goddess or modern icon does not matter; its hypnotic power defies time and reality. We cannot help but stare back into the eyes of this stoic and seductive spirit guide and ultimately into the dark, mysterious caverns of our own psyche.
Establishing relationships among nature, the cosmos and humankind, Walker's work reflects something bigger and wider than our own eyes can see. He leads us to be free to open up the inner part of ourselves enough to let us express our own spiritual energy. Walker is one of the recipients of the Award of Excellence in the Manhattan Arts International 1994 Cover Art Competition. There are numerous collectors of his work around the world.

Heaven and Earthly watch

"Your painting has spiritual depth the others lack. It draws the deep eye of the soul to look at it instead of the glittering eye of fashion or popular taste.
Of course, everyone experiences paintings differently…but I will share mine with you. (You can skip this part if you have heard it all before.)
The 'as above, so below' idea is expressed with Movement, life and a new message that Perception is the hidden key to understanding. Out of the dark, cosmic mystery on the left of the painting comes the 'dent' in the center of the fuzzy starred sky. The 'dent' is the eye of the cyclone of the creation, the eye of our central perception of that cosmic mystery and it is also the eye of the gods perceiving it from their viewpoint. Finally, it is the hidden source of constant Creation. In addition, it is alive and central to the flower-star scattered heaven and earth.

The eye of God sees what it sees, the eye of man on earth sees what he sees, but the dark cosmic mystery, the darkness to the left reminds us that nothing has changed except our heavenly and earthly perception of it. The curve of it is repeated in the curve of the earth that separates, but does not separate earth/heaven.

There are two perceptions available in the painting. We can choose from our earthly dwelling place which house to live in…it does not matter because either one will lead us back to the Cosmic perception…Both houses are duplicates of each other. The 'as above, so below' concept. HOWEVER, from our initial attitude of how to perceive life, death, heaven, earth, we take the path out of our chosen house of perception. We walk down the path and out of the painting into a larger worldview that will extend our perceptions into realms unknown.

Eventually, all of us will take one of the paths out. Again, it does not matter which path. Both are the same kind of structure. The larger one on the right will hold the 'majority opinion' people. The houses are small and not permanent dwellings so they remind us that our stay in any life structure is "a tent for a summer night,” That offers us a feeling of security and safety that is only temporary. Because above and below them stretch the flower star fields of the larger insight beyond our life/death concerns. A question the painting poses is "so when do you take the path out to discover your next perception?" and "when will you admit to the immensity of the mystery in which you participate?" Perhaps as someone said, the soul does not live in man, rather man lives inside the universal soul.

There is one more path. The large, mysterious darkness on the left, which is the same darkness of the paths, the darkness that underlies the stars and flowers. Its darkness touches both houses, frightens us again at the doors of the houses, and makes the path through the flowers more menacing. We are frightened by the immensity, by the knowableness of the darkness and what is to come from great creative force as it spews out more mysteries for us to perceive.
I stood in the flower filed, arms upraised to the star field and worshipped. I chose each house to walk into and out of, down each path. Finally, I chose to walk the dark path of the one constant in the painting, the darkness to the left, which underlies all of it. I walked into the eye to see through it….
This painting I can live with and walk into and of and experienced new perceptions about my small personal life against the immensity."

Awakening to Love

"Awakening to Love" is a powerful painting in which the individual is aroused from a deep sleep. Her sleep is dark and without dreams. She suffers from a lack of creativity, light, and love. A sleeping beauty that has never seen the light of day. Then the Word was spoken ever so gently, as a lover would. Her lumbering eyes open with a lack of resolve as a sloth like response to the Word. "Behold, the Beauty has awaken" echoes around her in sharp contrast to the Word that still lingers in her mind. She notices the ruffle dress which is like the ripples across a lake and for a moment is lost in them. Like the ripples in a lake, one small event in one's life has many turns and consequences. She vows never to fall asleep again but she feels that it will happen again just as she knows that it will once again awake. All she needs to hear to awaken is the one word the she longs for: LOVE

First Kiss “Matt & Jen”

To view the painting “First Kiss, Matt and Jen” in nothing short of impressive. It is WONDERFUL. Every little detail is so magnificent, so masterfully done - one can really get into the scenery and loose itself in it forever - because it is an overwhelming and unlimited pleasure for the eyes! The palette of colors is magical: rich, complex, exquisite, perfect. I do love very much that among the widest amalgam of colors you have taken the decision to keep the couple enwrapped into one single color: red! The whole painting is extremely romantic and very moving. Even the most cynical and dried out soul is obliged to recall an undeniable emotion that yes; this is a sublime and perfect moment in LOVE. The painting does grasp that moment of perfection. The kiss is fixes it in eternity forever. It has tremendous emotional impact. The work is beautiful executed with copious amount of exact detail. It is absolute divine masterpiece.

The Artist George Alphonso Walker did not compromise and any of his ability or his skills to create a slice of heaven on Earth. The ethereal quality is divinely inspired as it reminds us of how we feel inside and out when the human experience the presence of Eros. The Nature goddess herself magically blends the mythological quality of the natural background. “The First kiss” has sensational colors that are harmonious, and masterfully synchronized to unlock the heart with emotions. This serendipity triggers the euphoric sensation that is similar to our own memories, of our own feelings of love, or our first meaningful kiss.

George Alphonso Walker’s work had many multi-faceted level of awareness, that it transport one own consciousness to another space in time. This painting “The first Kiss, Matt, & Jen” invites you in to a temple of your familiar. There is movement with symphonic peaks and valleys. It suspended reality from fiction, disbelief, and amazement as to his patience, dedication, and observation to details, adds drama and complexity, down to the last microdot.

Hailing from Europe, the Caribbean, as well as the Americas, Walker is possibly the most eclectic Artist currently residing in Southern California. He Brings His diverse background, travels, and experience to his paintings. They are bright and bold but filled with gentle strokes that underscores his scenes of spiritual unity, and peace. Walker uses colors , Landscape, and from to illustrate that tranquility, both spiritually and physically, us far from dull but is, in fact divine.
